Program Overview

The Internship and Career Development Office at the Shidler College of Business provides an excellent avenue for employers to gain access to the best and the brightest of Hawaii’s young professionals. Through the Internship and Career Development Web page, employers can list their job openings to the full range of graduating seniors, graduate students and alumni.

In addition to free career listings, employers can also contact the Internship and Career Development Office to be scheduled for on-campus interviews, or to reserve a booth at the College’s annual Career Fair. How Does My Company Get An Intern?

If your company or organization is interested in sponsoring an intern, the process is quite simple. Just register online as a new Company Representative. Registering will grant you access to the Office of Internships and Career Developement web functions, allowing you to post new job and internship listings.

Internship Guidelines

As an internship sponsor, your organization will provide direct, on-the-job supervision of the student intern. The following guidelines may be helpful in structuring a positive internship experience for you and the student:

  • Internships may be either paid or unpaid.
  • Orienting the student intern to your company's structure and operations
  • Orienting the student intern to policies and procedures regarding appropriate dress, office hours, applicable absentee policies, etc.
  • Introducing the student intern to professional and clerical staff
  • Providing the student with resources necessary to accomplish assignment objectives
  • Orienting the student intern to the policies and procedures of the human resources department
  • Affording the student intern the opportunity to identify with the supervisor as a professional staff person by jointly participating in appropriate office interviews, meetings, conferences, projects, and other area functions
  • Assigning and supervising the completion of tasks and responsibilities that are consistent with the student intern's role in the company that ensure appropriate learning experiences
  • Consulting with the Internship Director in the event that the supervisor becomes aware of personal communication or other problems that hinder the student intern's learning and performance
  • Providing scheduled conferences with the student intern
  • Participating in joint and individual conferences with the student intern and the Internship Director regarding the student intern's performance
  • Submitting a Student Evaluation Form on the student intern's job performance
  • Ensuring that the student intern's assignments are in line with the job description for the assigned position
