Rick Varley - Director, Internships & Career Development
Richard Varley joined Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in May of 2001, as the Director of the Office of Internships and Career Development, coming from the UH- Manoa's Cooperative Education Program, where he served for eight years as a tenured faculty.
Rick received his undergraduate degree in political science from Hawaii Loa College. Afterwards, he went on to complete a Master of Arts in History (China) from East Stroudsburg University (PA.). He has since completed his master's coursework in higher education administration at the College of Education.
Rick was the associate director for admissions at Hawaii Loa College for eight years. He has also taught speech and communication for two years at Kanazawa University and Hokuriku University in Kanazawa, Japan. Rick is an active triathlete and coach, and is the author of "The Runner's Guide to Oahu", published by the University of Hawaii Press in 2004. He is currently working on "The Cycling Guide to Oahu", which he hopes to complete by 2009.
Rick served two consecutive terms as the president of the Pacific Association for Cooperative Education. As president he worked towards raising the quality of co-op and internship standards among all public and private colleges and universities in the State of Hawai'i.

Patrick Stuart - Assistant Director, Undergraduate Career Devevlopment
Patrick graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the Shidler College of Business, University of Hawaii at Manoa. He later completed his Master of Business and Master of Arts, Human Resource Management from Hawaii Pacific University, while working at Northwest Airlines and traveling throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. In 1999, Patrick joined Prince Resorts Hawaii, Mauna Kea Resort, as Associate Human Resources Manager where he was able to assist employees with a wide range of employment issues and needs.
Most recently, he was Human Resources Manager for Remedy Intelligent Staffing, a full service staffing company, in which he focused on recruitment, placement, benefits, employee relations and employee development. In this role, Patrick was able to specifically consult with companies on their staffing needs and assist them with locating qualified candidates for their consideration. Alternatively, he was able to assist candidates with job skill identification to develop their foundations, and ultimately, identify potential career paths.
Patrick looks forward to working with the Shidler College of Business students, specifically, Undergraduates, in assisting them with building their foundations through internships and ultimately placement in top companies, locally, nationally, and internationally.

Verna Wong - Assistant Director, MBA Internships and Career Development
Verna joined the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2008, and is currently the Assistant Director of MBA Internships and Career Development at the Office of Internships and Career Development.
She is responsible for assisting MBA students in career and professional development; as well as providing support in the areas of internships and career opportunities. Verna also works on developing relationships and partnerships with employers, who are in search of top talent from the Shidler College of Business.
Verna graduated with a BBA in finance from the University of Hawaii. While working in the travel industry, she returned to the University to complete her MBA.
Most recently, she held the position of Talent Acquisition Manager, U.S. Group for DFS Group LP; where she was responsible for the recruitment of Management Trainees and College Interns. She also held the job of Retail Training Manager, overseeing the Management Trainee Program and Internship Programs in Hawaii. Prior to working at DFS, she has worked in various segments within the retail industry in Hawaii and the U.S.
